According to recent statistics, a new case of breast cancer is diagnosed every 29 seconds. Moreover, the mastectomy rate in India is more than 90 per cent, which is double the rate of US. The reason is that most of the Indian patients are in advanced stages of breast cancer at the time of diagnoses. Dr Kanchan Kaur, Associate Director, Medanta Breast services says,

Between 1990 and 2015, deaths of children under five have gone down by half worldwide but India has had the highest number of such deaths at 1.3 million in 2015. India has pulled down maternal deaths but Bangladesh has done better, according to the Global Burden of Disease 2015 study published in The Lancet, detailing key drivers of illness, disability and death in countries.
